Since the beginning of the year, Ballou has been offering its services to high-growth technology companies and investment funds in Spain

Full-stack European communications advisory firm, Ballou announces the opening of its fourth office, in Barcelona, adding to its existing offices in London, Paris and Berlin. The expansion to Spain marks the next step in the agency’s growth and mission, to support the technology ecosystem across Europe. From now on, Ballou will be able to cover the four largest technology markets in Europe and support clients in their localised campaigns.

Spanish technology companies, startups and venture capital firms will be able to take advantage of Ballou’s European reach to set up high-impact communication campaigns outside of Spain, and  existing clients can seamlessly roll out their communication efforts in the Spanish market. Ballou Spain will support its clients with experts working at both the strategic and tactical execution layer to address clients’ communications challenges such as launching in a new market and product launches to fundraising, mergers & acquisitions, IPOs and crisis communications.

Strong ambitions for Spain, a burgeoning market for tech companies and venture capital

In recent years, investment in the Spanish technology ecosystem has grown exponentially. In 2022, the Spanish market  experienced its second best year on record for VC investment according to dealroom, with €4B raised. Additionally, the EIB recently announced that its venture capital arm will back a new fund in Spain that aims to invest €1 billion in growth stage technology startups. As more and more Spanish startups reach sufficient levels of maturity to conquer the European and even global markets, Ballou has chosen to establish its office in Spain,  recognising it as a major European hub for entrepreneurship.

The Barcelona office will be headed by Jörn Dunker, a seven-year veteran of Ballou Germany and its former Managing Director.

“Spain has grown to become a major part of the venture capital, startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Europe. Over the last months we’ve been in talks with a number of players in the ecosystem, gaining a deep understanding of the criteria and needs of the market. Our ambition is to become a strong local partner for companies wishing to increase their brand awareness and manage their reputation in Spain. In addition, we want to enable Spanish tech companies and startups to not only gain more visibility in their home market but also accelerate in other European markets.””

A natural next step for Ballou

For over 20 years, Ballou has been supporting high-growth companies and investment funds in the European tech ecosystem. Today, the company employs forty consultants who work on clients including Box, Cathay Innovation, Cloudflare, CommerzVentures, Deel, Duolingo, eDreams Odigeo, MangoPay, monday.com, Mozilla, Nomadic Labs, NIU and many others.

“We’ve been monitoring the Spanish ecosystem for years now, watching formidable local VCs like JME Ventures, All Iron Ventures, Nauta Capital and Axon Partners come into their own, high-growth companies like TravelPerk, Factorial, Typeform, Paack and Wallbox mature, and outstanding conference and events like South Summit and 4YFN become must-attend European events. The effervescence of the Spanish tech ecosystem is evident for anyone who is watching, so it’s time for Ballou to get in and do our part.”
